In today’s ever-evolving world, it’s difficult to live freely as your authentic self — My goal as your therapist is to create a space where you feel supported and empowered to do just that.

Here’s How…

by creating a sense of security

As a therapist and fellow human, I bring a set of skills based on my education, training, and lived experience to each session. First and foremost, I always aim to provide an unconditional, accepting, and empathic space for you to explore what it is that has led you to seek out support. This welcoming and nonjudgmental environment is the cornerstone of my work, a place where you’ll feel free to talk openly and be your truest self. Together, we will get to the bottom of whatever it is that may be contributing to your unwanted emotional experience, and create a space where we can collaborate on ways you can begin to feel more at ease, empowered, and in alignment with your personal values, goals, and unique identity.

through collaboration

I believe therapy is always a collaborative effort between client & therapist. As we strive to connect with one another as fellow human beings navigating life’s challenges, I will offer insight, pose questions, and reflect my own interpretations of your experience. Over all else, my hope is for you to feel supported, guided, and empowered to trust your own abilities, instincts, and human strength. Collaboratively, we will compassionately and curiously explore the pieces that play a part in how you experience yourself and the world around you, including the rich context in which you live. These pieces may include circumstances in your past, hardships in your present life, or the impact of living within social structures that may not fully support your identity and well-being. Together, we will work to deconstruct some of the forces which impact how you perceive yourself and the situations present in your life circumstances. Therapy, our work together, is an intricate dance between supporting and confronting the world as you experience it.

via discovery

Therapy offers an opportunity to reflect, consider, and possibly move away from ways of being that are no longer in your best interest, and instead, discover a new liberating path forward. It also provides an invitation to begin to see yourself in a more positive light, to develop self-compassion and empathy toward your entire self. Together, we will develop new ways of understanding and answering to situations in your life, emphasizing your inherent strengths and resiliency. Being part of a consistent therapeutic practice, short term or long term, can help deepen your relationship to yourself and empower you to feel better equipped to engage with life’s challenges as they arise.

my stance

lgbtqia+ affirmative

As an LGBTQIA+ Affirmative psychotherapist, I believe it is important to consider how growing up and living in the world as a queer individual affects one’s emotional and psychological development. I strive to bring that understanding into the therapeutic work with queer folx and emphasize my belief that a person's queer identity is often part of what makes them singular, strong, and whole. An affirmative stance is active rather than passive, empowering rather than merely accepting, and curious rather than all-knowing. I believe you are the expert of your own life and I aim to help you define and express your unique identity.

liberation-minded

I consider myself to be a Liberation-minded psychotherapist. What this means is that I strive to explore the ways in which we absorb oppression, and uncover how that oppression affects our self-concept and existence in the world. At times, I task myself with supporting and encouraging you to actively engage in transforming the social oppression in which we are all immersed, helping you cultivate the liberatory power you hold inside. With that said, I often work with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, transgender/gender non-binary community, folx in an ethically non-monogamous relationship, and the rest of us who are disproportionately affected by the White supremacist, heteronormative, patriarchal, capitalist society in which we live. I do not shy away from acknowledging my own Whiteness and cis identity in the room and hope to build a space where we can openly discuss how our shared and/or differing identities impact our work together. Beyond the communities already mentioned, I also tend to work with individuals of all gender identities dealing with low self-worth, relationship concerns, identity or existential issues, trauma responses, burnout, grief, or anyone looking to gain self-compassion and a deeper understanding or insight into their experience. To learn more about how we may work together, please feel free to check out my blog.
